Lexar is marking its 30th anniversary in 2026 by showcasing a new range of memory and storage technologies at IFA 2026. The company’s latest offerings include the Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD, next-generation AI storage concepts, commercial SSD solutions, and storage products designed for electric vehicles.
The highlight of the showcase is the Lexar Muse, a compact portable SSD designed to reduce the bulk and cable clutter often associated with external storage for smartphones and other mobile devices.
Lexar Muse Targets Mobile Content Creators
The Lexar Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD combines a card-like design with magnetic connectivity and high-speed data transfer capabilities. It is designed for creators who need additional storage while filming, editing, transferring files, or backing up content on the go.
The drive features a precision-machined, unibody metal enclosure made from a single piece of metal. Its body measures approximately 3.8 millimeters at its thickest point and tapers to around 1 millimeter at the edge, giving it a slim, minimalist appearance.
Inside, Lexar uses an ultra-thin printed circuit board, high-density NAND storage, and a space-efficient internal structure to maintain the drive’s compact form.
Magnetic Connectivity Reduces Cable Clutter
The Muse uses Lexar’s proprietary PogoPin magnetic data connection, which works with the included SnapLink Magnetic Cable.
The connection incorporates spring-loaded pins, while N52-grade neodymium magnets are used in the data connector and magnetic mounting sleeve. These features are designed to make alignment easier and keep the drive securely attached during use.
The magnetic sleeve can hold the SSD and attach it to the back of compatible MagSafe iPhone models, helping users maintain a more organized mobile filming setup.
High-Speed Storage for ProRes Video
According to Lexar, the Muse can deliver sequential read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s.
The SSD is compatible with iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices that support USB-C connectivity. On compatible iPhone models, it can also support direct external recording of Apple ProRes 4K video at up to 120 frames per second.
Potential uses include:
- Recording high-resolution smartphone video
- Backing up photos and videos
- Transferring large files
- Storing creative projects
- Expanding device storage
- Editing content while traveling
Lexar plans to offer the Muse in 512GB and 1TB capacities, with availability expected from the fourth quarter of 2026.
Lexar Demonstrates Next-Generation AI Storage
In addition to portable storage, Lexar is showcasing its AI Storage Core technologies at IFA 2026.
The concepts include an AI-grade Gen5 SSD and an AI-grade Gen5 Storage Stick, both designed to address the storage demands of compact artificial intelligence devices.
Lexar says the technologies can offer bandwidth of up to 11 GB/s, potentially helping AI systems handle larger local models, switch between models more quickly, and reduce data-access delays.
These solutions are being developed for environments where power consumption, thermal limitations, and physical space are important considerations.
Luma Bridge Aims to Improve Local AI Performance
The AI storage concepts combine advanced packaging, controller hardware, and system-level software optimization.
At the center of the technology is Longsys’ self-developed Gen5 Storage Processing Unit, or SPU. Built using a 5-nanometer manufacturing process and a DRAM-less architecture, the controller is designed to support high-performance storage while potentially improving supply stability.
Lexar’s Luma Bridge technology uses workload scheduling, predictive data prefetching, and cache-management techniques to address demanding AI workloads.
Lexar says the system is designed to support large Mixture-of-Experts models and expanding KV Cache requirements. The company also claims that it can reduce DRAM capacity requirements by approximately 40 percent, although real-world performance will depend on the specific hardware and workload.
Lexar Expands Into Commercial and OEM Storage
Lexar is also using IFA 2026 to highlight its storage solutions for commercial computers, system builders, and original equipment manufacturers.
Its client SSD portfolio includes PCIe Gen3 and Gen4 products covering different performance, capacity, and pricing requirements. These drives are intended to support a variety of commercial systems and device configurations.
The expansion reflects Lexar’s broader move beyond traditional consumer storage products toward business, OEM, and specialized applications.
Dedicated Storage for Electric Vehicle Recording Systems
As electric vehicles increasingly incorporate dashcams, multi-camera recording, and security-monitoring features, reliable storage has become an important part of the in-car technology experience.
Lexar’s Dashcam USB Flash Drive Series is designed for continuous loop recording and other demanding automotive applications.
The drives feature high-endurance firmware, a compact design, broad EV compatibility, and support for operation across challenging temperature conditions. They are intended to provide a more specialized option than standard USB flash drives for drivers who need to record and retain vehicle footage.
Availability and Price
The Lexar Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD is expected to launch in 512GB and 1TB capacities during the fourth quarter of 2026. Lexar has not provided final pricing details in the announcement.
Pricing and availability may vary by region and product configuration.
